Events in society can affect an organization. We have seen it many times. A terrorist event emanating from an extremist group in the Middle East can cause anti-muslim feelings to rise. A killing of African Americans at the hands of law enforcement can lay emotions bare, making people feel insecure. Left to fester, the residual of ill-will can spread like a virus in an organization and may even attract unwanted attention from outside the company.
